Divinity: Original Sin, which will be receiving an Enhanced Edition by year’s end, is a resounding Kickstarter success. Funded for right under $1 million, DOS has continued to gain fans way after its release and Larian Studios is ready to get things going for the sequel.
The Kickstarter for Divinity: Original Sin II goes live on August 26th, but fans can vote and suggest potential backer rewards leading up to the launch on the game’s new website. On top of that, players can get an early hands on at PAX Prime at the end of this month.
Considering the success of the previous game, you may be wondering why Larian Studios has to tap into Kickstarter again. Swen Vincke, Larian Studios founder, took to his blog to address questions:
“The uber-short version would be that “Divinity: Original Sin wouldn’t be the game it was without the input from our Kickstarter backers & Steam Early Access players. There were a lot of them and they pushed us forwards in directions we hadn’t anticipated when we started development.”
Crowd-funding is directly beneficial when it comes to budget, but many can miss the other benefits that bridge the gap between fans and developers. Stay tuned for more information on Divinity: Original Sin II and be sure to grab the Enhanced Edition if you haven’t played yet.
