“I don’t have to win… We both just have to lose.”
– Kang the Conqueror
A new, action-packed trailer for Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which opens in theaters Feb. 17, 2023, just debuted during tonight’s College Football Playoff National Championship. Kicking off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the fast-paced, big-screen adventure features the MCU’s most powerful villain to date: Kang the Conqueror and many Paul Rudds.
The third installment of director Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man trilogy takes MCU fans deep into the Quantum Realm. Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer are also returning as Janet van Dyne, aka Wasp, inventor Hank Pym and Hope van Dyne, who was rescued from the Quantum Realm in 2018’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” Kathryn Newton is also joining the super-family as Scott Lang’s now grown-up daughter Cassie, who has donned a purple Ant-Man suit herself.
“He can re-write existence and shatter timelines.”
As seen in the trailer above, Kang, who was last seen as He Who Remains in the Season 1 finale of Loki on Disney+. He Who Remains, a variant of Kang from an alternate timeline, was killed by Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) in the show’s finale, which unleashed waves of multiversal chaos and the wrath of Kang, a universe-traversing threat.
Tempting Scott with “the one thing you want,” Kang, the millennia-old god who is forever at war with other versions of himself from alternate universes, is tempting Scott with the beauty and luxury of “Time,” something Scott lost during the Blip. As Kang dangles the hope of getting back all the years he missed with his daughter, Cassie, Scott of course most likely accepts, which could lead to all hell breaking loose (not a Mephisto pun).
Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.
Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige, p.g.a. and Stephen Broussard, p.g.a., Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania also stars Jonathan Majors as Kang, David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O’Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar. The sci-fi adventure opens in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
