Telltale Reveals Tales from the Borderlands from Their Vault

Telltale Games revealed their latest project at VGX, and it’s not based on a popular comic series. Instead, Telltale will work their magic with a game based on Gearbox’s Borderlands franchise. The game will be called Tales from the Borderlands, and it will be released next year.

With The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us being the company’s more serious entries, it seems that Telltale is returning to its comedic roots. According to Kotaku, the story will star nobodies who are “wannabe vault hunters.”  Telltale hopes to take the best elements from their own games and Gearbox’s popular franchise and combine them to make Tales from the Borderlands.

“You get to shoot stuff, but in a different way,” said a Telltale developer at the show. “It’s gonna play like a telltale game—you’re going to be engaging characters and developing relationships, but it’s very much in the borderlands world. It’s this great hybrid of everything that’s great about Borderlands and everything thats great about Telltale.”

Speaking of “wannabe vault hunters,” I’m getting a serious Monkey Island vibe from Tales from the Borderlands, and I have no qualms. Can you say, “I’m Guybrush Threepwood, mighty vault hunter!”

And yes, I realize that The Secret of Monkey Island was originally a LucasArts franchise. Just please let me revel in my mediocre joke while you discuss in the comments whether or not you’re excited for Tales from the Borderlands.
