As I stare at my collection of Arcade1Up cabinets, two thoughts come to mind. First, I’m still shocked these items exist and are in my home. Second, my collection is complete…well the last thought is an absolute LIE! There can always be more and thankfully more are on the way. Arcade1Up has a few goodies to show off at this year’s E3. Right now I’m going to focus on a cabinet the community has been asking for since the 2019 release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which was Arcade1Up’s first 4 player cabinet.
This highly requested cabinet was none other than The Simpsons. This 4 player cabinet hit arcades in 1991 and became an instant classic. The Simpsons has our favorite animated family kicking ass on the mean streets of Springfield in a side-scrolling beat’em up adventure. The iconic art style and authentic audio clips made this title look & feel genuine. This means it didn’t feel like a cash grab by slapping a beloved IP on a generic beat’em up. Arcade1UP Simpsons cabinet will include the following games:
- The Simpsons
- Bonus game to be announced at a later date
Okay, I’ve talked about the games so let’s talk about this cabinet. This cabinet is packed with the following features and additional add-ons to enhance the overall experience:
- Wi-Fi
- Matching Riser
- Clear Deck Protector
- Lit Marquee
- 30th Anniversary in 2021
As you can see from the list above, Arcade1Up has gone all-in on offering the full Simpsons arcade experience. The cabinet is beautifully designed with bright colors and on the front kick plate, you can see 4 painted coin buttons along with the key lock for coin removal. I love this attention to detail but it also plants the seed in my mind of how cool it would be to actually have a coin-op mode. As of this writing, not much is known about the WIFI options, but I’m assuming it will be similar to what we’ve seen in NBA JAM which offered an online leaderboard and online matchmaking.
The Simpsons Arcade1Up cabinet will be available for preorder on July 15th. Pricing has not been confirmed but I’m sure it will be within the $500-$600 range and will be available at the below retailers.
- GameStop
- Walmart
- The Brick Canada
Stay tuned for more details on this product at a later date.
