Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge – Dimension Shellshock DLC Review

This has definitely been a fantastic summer for TMNT fans. We kicked off August with what could arguably be the best TMNT movie to hit the big screen in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. Then we end the month with new DLC titled Dimension Shellshock for what I consider hands down the best TMNT video game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge (click here for my full game review).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge – Dimension Shellshock‘s story along with objectives are straight to the point. The teenage Neutrinos have come back from Dimension X to recruit the turtles and friends to help stop Shredder from trying to take over the multiverse. So now its time to KICK SOME SHELL!

We now have 2 additional playable characters, the first being badass samurai Usagi Yojimbo and controversial foot clan member / semi leader Karai. In the history of TMNT, Karai has had her back story altered multiple times, from being Shredder’s adopted daughter to being splinter’s biological daughter.

This is worth mentioning since the two new playable characters also dish out new one liners to their foes. Karai has some very interesting things to say when fighting some of the name bosses, especially Shredder.

Both characters are playable across all modes – Story, Arcade and the new Survival. Similar to the other playable characters in the base game, these characters can also level up and upgrade their abilities. However, the key feature is the new Survival mode. You can go in with a full team of 6 or jump in solo. You will jump across multiple locations all of which have their own unique design with some containing environmental hazards such as a hole in the middle of the battlefield which you need to avoid falling in during combat.

Once you complete a wave of enemies, you will be presented with the option to obtain 1 or 2 rewards. This could be a variety of useful enhancements such as an additional life, more HP, Special attack or the ability to play as Shredder, Bebop, and Rock Steady. Please note that these 3 iconic foes are only playable in Survival and are not selectable for Story or Arcade mode.

Playing as one of the iconic foes also gives you a 2nd life. So if you are defeated, you will jump back in as the original character that you chose. Just like in Story and Arcade, you can level up your character in Survival. The DLC also includes new color palettes for all characters including Casey Jones who you obtain after completing the story.

As you progress in Survival, you will obtain little crystals. Once you have earned enough to make a larger crystal, you will be transported to another Dimension. All of the enemies are from the base game but they are randomized along with how many will appear in each wave.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge – Dimension Shellshock is a great addition to an already classic of a game. The new characters give another reason to replay the story and the Survival mode is a fun way to level up your characters and get in some Beat’em up action if you have a little free time or for endless hours. So if you are looking for another reason to dive back into Shredder’s Revenge, than Dimension Shellshock is worth the buy.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
