The creator of DayZ Dean Hall has announced that a DayZ console port is “almost certain” and that it won’t harm the PC version, in an interview with The Escapist.
Talking about the possibilities of a release other than the upcoming PC version, Hall revealed:
“Certainly I think if we don’t, for want of a better word ‘fuck up,’ the PC release then I would say a console port is almost certain, I know a lot of people get really hot and bothered about it. Like, I’m not a console gamer, I’m a PC gamer, but I don’t think it necessarily has to hurt things.”
Hall then explained further that a console version has already begun to gain interest with Sony:
“It appears to be the kind of game that Sony are interested in, I think we just have to wait and see, we’ve talked and met with Sony, and they’re very – you know, they’re obviously interested.”
I for one would be very pleased if DayZ got a console release, the more gamers that get to play a game the better. It’s interesting that Hall mentioned that “I don’t think it necessarily has to hurt things” in regards to the PC version, it’s almost like he knew there would be an outcry by the die hard PC fans of his game at the announcement of a console version.
DayZ currently does not currently have a release date, it was recently delayed as the developer decided to do a major overhaul of the engine, hopefully we’ll here more about the game soon.
Would you like a console port of DayZ? Would you be mad if they took attention away from the PC version to make it? Let me know in the comments below.
