At a press event yesterday, Disney Interactive announced their latest title Disney Infinity will be coming this June and gave full details about what we should expect from their new videogame venture.
Taking almost direct inspiration from the success of Skylanders, Disney Infinity will have figurines of characters from the Disney and Pixar Universes which you can add to your game as you collect them. By placing these figurines on ‘Portals’ they will instantly be transferred into your game world. Uniquely, the game has a ‘Toy Box’ mode that will let you mix and match characters and environments from different universes, something that will surely appeal to many.
When the game releases in June it will come with a ‘Starter Pack‘ that includes Sully, Mr. Incredible and Captain Jack Sparrow figures although at release there will be over 30 figurines to collect, sold separately of course. This starter pack will put you back $75 with each figurine costing $13.
Many were calling for it and Disney answered, after Skylanders was such a huge hit worldwide it seemed obvious that Disney would take the Skylanders model and apply it to their own characters. The concept of taking characters from multiple universes and putting them together seems great. What excites me the most is the breadth of universes they can pull from, leaving an endless combinations of scenarios to ponder. The real question is when will Nintendo begin on a Pokemon game of this type?
Disney Infinity will be releasing on the Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, PC, 3DS and Wii this June and is sure to be a hit with the kids. Will you be interested in Disney Infinity? Does having to buy separate figures put you off? Let us know in the comments section below.
