Developed by Behaviour Digitial, Dead by Daylight has quickly become one of the most enjoyable (and frightening) early access games to hit Steam in recent months. With a bad-ass gameplay style, detailed graphics, and a killer soundtrack, Dead by Daylight is certainly a game that should not be missed.
With a four versus one play style, players will be placed into a four-person survivor group or as the solo killer. With procedurally generated maps, survivors must navigate the area to power on generators to open the main exit door and escape. The killer is tasked with hunting down the survivors, slashing them, and hanging them on a hook, Texas Chainsaw Massacre-style.
While the survivors can hear an accelerated heartbeat as the killer approaches, the killer can track blood from the people he slashed or can place traps all around the area to capture his prey. If the killer does find a survivor, a classic horror movie style chase begins where the victim can utilize surrounding bins and structures to block the killer from getting to them as they run for their life.
As players gain experience points, more options become available such as whispers and other useful upgrades that allow both the survivors and the killer to become more efficient at hiding and killing. Although Dead by Daylight is still in its beta phase, the game runs fairly well — aside from some minor matchmaking issues and slow loading times.
All-in-all, Dead by Daylight is an exceedingly enjoyable early access game that should be played with your friends. If you enjoy slasher flicks, Until Dawn, or any horror genres, go ahead and check it out for yourself!
“Dead by Daylight will be released on June 14th and is available for pre-order from April 22nd – both as a Standard Edition and a Deluxe Edition.”
