Remember the passion you had for your favorite toy as a kid? The daily obsession? The stories you imaged with just you and your buddy? The countless hours you spent being lost in your own world? We all have our favorite childhood toy that filled us with complete joy, but as we got older, that love made room for the internet, bills, TV and potential love interests. Eventually, the passion we had for our favorite childhood toys was buried deep in the back of our minds.
Fortunately for Brian Volk-Weiss’ (and now us), his passion for toys never faded as he became an avid toy collector with hundreds of toys collected over a 35+ year period. Coupled with a vast knowledge of toy history, Volk-Weiss spanned the globe to find not only fellow toy collectors, but to speak to the those who created them. What resulted was Netflix’s The Toys That Made Us, a mesmerizing eight-part documentary series filled with all the warm fuzzy feelings of nostalgia.
The Koalition had an opportunity to speak with Volk-Weiss about his upcoming Netflix series that will feature personal stories and the history of Star Wars, Barbie, G.I. Joe, He-Man, Transformers, Hello Kitty, Star Trek, and LEGO.
Check out the interview below and don’t forget to watch The Toys That Made Us on December 22nd on Netflix.
