Riot Games’ League of Legends MMORPG Can Be Expected By 2022

Riot Games, the leader in the world of eSports and the developer responsible behind many popular eSports titles such as League of Legends and Valorant, is possibly working on a new MMORPG title to compete with industry veterans. The news was first confirmed by Greg Street of Riot Games in 2020. However, the hiring process commenced in 2021 which seems to have accelerated the movement.

Focusing on League of Legends, its popularity has been increasing over the years, if not months. An ongoing summer tournament saw a massive prize pool of $336,000 while its viewers peaked at 720,337. Due to its increased popularity, sportsbooks like Unibet are offering wide coverage of the tournaments. They’re highly rated as a sportsbook in Australia – as per this Unibet Australia review and are operating in other big markets like the States and Europe.

League of Legends

It seems that Riot Games are not planning on stopping here as they plan to expand into the MMORPG scene as well. Some of the all-time best MMORPG games include World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, and Ashes of Creation which means that Riot Games’ path is not going to be easy to compete with. However, we are sure that Riot Games’ intervention will be a success story.

The news was first confirmed by Greg Street of Riot Games in 2020. However, the hiring process commenced in 2021 which seems to have accelerated the movement. Greg Street claims that:

‘My recent job has been to help develop the League universe, which we’re going to need. Because it is time. My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking to create.’

League of Legends

Greg Street’s mission is to add more people within their team to diversify their team. Greg wants to bring in more people who feel underappreciated in the industry so that they can provide them with a platform. Currently recruiting experts, Greg is not excluding bringing in fresh faces around next year. All this is because he wants to ensure that the game remains fresh and offers a wide outlook.

Considering the hiring direction that the team is taking, it is natural to assume that there might be some sort of reveal or release around late 2022. This is our hopeful speculation!

The League of Legends world is a massive one. An MMORPG release can definitely bring a lot of new people in and provide justice to the world that Riot Games have managed to build over the years.
