When it comes to soul-like games, anyone who knows me knows my heart races when it comes to Remnant 2. And now my pulse is pounding again with The Dark Horizon DLC which has arrived. With this expansion and the little bit of time I have already devoted to it, I can say that it is now a complete masterpiece. It’s better than ever, and a lot of the biggest changes are free thanks to an update.
Remnant 2 once again has players exploring alien planets and helping out the locals, but then you do something I never even imagined, you get to step up and save reality. The world is just as beautiful and diverse as ever. The abundance of ever-changing dungeons makes it feel like the replay value is never at a loss, and we still get some of the badass-looking bosses ever designed.
Along with that, the details of your gear and weapons go above and beyond, most games you ever played. I will just tell you that one of my favorite new guns has fingers on it that scream a little as you reload. Between the archetypes and the accessories, the armor and your traits, you can mix and match your character to play however the hell your heart desires. To top that off, throw in co-op, and “BOOMSHACKALAKA!” you’ve got something that almost feels like a souls-like shooter MMO.
The final DLC has us all returning to the planet with a poisonous fog all over it (N’Erud) and the one that you can sort of end up condemning to non-existence if you kill the weird alien baby that is one of the two main bosses in it. You can also get swallowed by the other main boss if you want. Look, the game has all sorts of options. As with Remnant 2‘s other DLC, the new guns, archetype, bosses, and areas are all stunning, and that’s all I’m going to say about it specifically.
For me, the two biggest things that came to the DLC are the Rush Mode and the ability to filter items. The first is the Boss rush mode, which allows you to select three, six, or all of the bosses, and then fight your way through in a random order, gaining buffs as you go. This is not only an amazing concept but it also grants rewards if you do well.
The other big part of the update is that you can now filter items. If you, like me, love creating builds in Remnant 2 but also used a lot of guides which means that you’ve got nearly every single item in the damn game, then this is going to be essential. Honestly, even if you’ve not played it as much as I have, there are still a lot of items, and being able to sort through them is such an essential update that, while I’m a little shocked it hasn’t come sooner, I am incredibly glad it’s here now.
There’s plenty of new stuff that The Dark Horizon brings to Remnant 2. If this is your first time picking up the game or if you’re like me and have been here since day 1, this game won’t let you down. Remnant 2 is an astounding accomplishment on its own, but with the third DLC out now, I truly believe this is a completely fun experience.
It not only shows off the joys of RNG GODS in a way that few other games can manage from the drops to the dungeon generator to the worlds. It had a hidden archetype that could only be found by hacking the game enough to understand the specific items you needed to unlock it. For me, this game is about as close to perfection as you can get in this day and age and I beseech you to buy it, play it, and conquer it in every way you can. This game needs the love that true fans can provide it.
