Earlier today, Microsoft made an official announcement via Xbox Wire that Phil Spencer is now the new Head of their Xbox division. Prior to his promotion, Spencer acted as the Chief of Microsoft Studios.
As Head of Xbox, Spencer is now responsible for all aspects of Xbox business including Xbox Live, Xbox Music, and Xbox Video. After finding out the news, Spencer released the following statement:
“It’s been a remarkable year for Xbox and I am honored to lead the team at this incredible time for Microsoft and the games industry.”
Spencer has spent the last 25 years at Microsoft and played an integral part in building up the Halo, Gears of War, Fable and Forza Motorsport franchises over the years. He is also a gamer, which in the eyes of many gamers makes him the absolute best candidate for this job.
Spencer has already stated that he has massive plans for the division and that gaming will be at the forefront of every Xbox decision from here on out. This news will appeal most to Xbox One owners and give them a lot to look forward to in the months and years ahead. With Spencer on board, E3 2014 should be very interesting for Microsoft this year.
