Maxis Offers Free Game as an Apology for the SimCity Debacle

In a recent post on the SimCity blog Maxis Head Honcho Lucy Bradshaw tried to quell the ongoing server shit storm by giving everyone an update on the ongoing situation.

Lucy wrote “a lot more people logged on than we expected. More people played and played in ways we never saw in the beta”.

She continued by informing us that the company has increased server capacity by 120% in the last 48 hours and are continuing to work on improving server responsiveness and stability. Lucy also revealed that for all the trouble caused anyone who activated SimCity on Origin will get an email on March 18 with a code to download a PC game from the EA portfolio.

Now a free game is all good and well but what I really wanted to hear is they are going to update the game with offline mode and give us a bigger area to build cities. Right now you can pretty much fill the small area you are given in a few hours. I’m pretty sure that would please fans more than some free game on Origin. What are your thoughts on this?
