Neverwinter Open Beta Period Announced

Neverwinter is an upcoming free-to-play MMORPG published by Perfect World Entertainment and developed by Cryptic Studios. Up until this point, the game has only been playable in Closed Beta Weekend tests for press, members of the Founders programs and those lucky enough to get a beta key. Now however, starting on April 30th the game will officially enter the Open Beta stage.

This does not mean the game is finished and ready to be considered “released” – it is still in a pre-release format and is being tested. This does mean, though, that it’s open to the public and anyone can play the game.  “We’ve never been in a better place launching a game,” said Jack Emmert, CEO, Cryptic Studios. Which, if my time with the game so far is any indication, seems to be just about correct. The game is already very stable and extremely well-made, even in its closed beta form.

They’re also opening up for one last closed beta test next weekend, starting on Friday, April 12th at 12PM PST. All those that were able to play in previous betas are free and able to jump back in the game in anticipation of the open beta period starting. If you’re interested in becoming a Founder, gainging access to the benefits and playing in next weekend’s final closed beta, check out the details right here: http://nw.perfectworld.com/founderspack/

One final thing worth noting – once Open Beta begins, there will not be any character wipes. This means your character you start and play with during the Open Beta period, will remain in the game post-launch!
