The Best Games of 2013: June Releases

With E3 2013 now only days away from being a reality, the month of June is jam-packed with a handful of notable releases to keep us all busy long after the expo is over. Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us rounds out the list, along with other titles like Remember Me and Deadpool. The following list highlights 11 games coming out this month along with videos and links for more info on each game. Without further ado, here are the Best Games of 2013 for the month of June.

Dontnod Entertainment’s highly anticipated action-adventure title kicks off the month of June in impressive fashion. Remember Me tells the story of a memory hunter named Nilin and her attempts to track down the employers responsible for stealing her memories and turning a futuristic Paris upside-down. With an emphasis on stealth and melee combat, Capcom’s newest IP looks promising and will no doubt be one of June’s most memorable titles.

What do you get when you mix the wildly popular Marvel Universe with the concept and appeal of an MMO/Action RPG? You would get a deeply engaging free-to-play MMO called Marvel Heroes. In addition to having a play style similar to Diablo II, Marvel Heroes will also feature a phenomenal story written by famous comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis. If you’re a fan of comics and Action RPGS, then do yourself a favor and check out this game.

Fans of the popular Animal Crossing series have been waiting for the latest installment in the franchise. Animal Crossing: New Leaf allows the player to become the mayor of his or her own town along with the ability to customize unlike never before. The Nintendo 3DS has had a particularly strong year with releases so far and titles like this will keep that momentum going strong.

Naughty Dog’s foray into the world of Survival horror is almost upon us. Inspired by Will Smith’s I Am Legend, The Last of Us follows the trials and tribulations of Joel and Ellie as they navigate through a world filled with infected creatures and desperate hunters around every corner.I had the opportunity to play the beta and wrote an intensive preview about the game last month. Not only is The Last of Us one of Naughty Dog’s finest games to date, but it is also a certifiable game of the year contender. If you can only afford one game for the month of June, then make sure it’s this game.

The latest release in the Wario series of video games is already poised to keep Wii U owners busy this June. Game and Wario is a party video game that revolves around 16 minigames that can be played on the Wii U GamePad. If you’re currently a Wii U owner and have been looking to get the most out of your console, then you should definitely keep this game on your radar.

Shortly after THQ shutdown for good, many started to wonder what would become of all the other titles that were still under development. Company of Heroes 2 was one of those titles and luckily SEGA picked up the rights before anyone else had a shot at it. If you’re a fan of real-time strategy games, then you’ll most certainly want to keep an eye out for this one.

Marvel’s favorite wisecracking mercenary is finally getting his very own video game. After getting a look at the gameplay video last month, I’m more convinced then ever that this Deadpool game will indeed be a sleeper hit this summer. If you’re a fan of Deadpool or any of the other characters in the Marvel universe, then definitely pickup this game on June 25th.

After gaining a ton of success in Japan, Muramasa: The Demon Blade finally makes it way over to the PlayStation Vita. Muramasa Rebirth is expected to feature four new short scenarios and four new playable protagonists. Fans of action role-playing games will find themselves right at home with this one.

Project X Zone is a crossover tactical role-playing game that features characters from Namco, Capcom, and Sega franchises. As I stated earlier, the Nintendo 3DS is having a stellar year for releases and this will be another game that many will want to get their hands on sooner rather than later.

Based on the successful Shadowrun series, Shadowrun Returns is a cyberpunk fantasy tactical role-playing video game set to hit consoles and mobile devices later this month. Featuring a turn-based combat system similar to X-Com: Enemy Unknown, Shadowrun Returns is also the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign started by Harebrained Schemes. If you’re even remotely interested in this game, then I would encourage you to checkout the alpha gameplay footage above.

Undead Labs open world zombie survival horror game has been a project several years in the making. What started out as a simple game has now grown into an intensely ambitious title where relationships play a pivotal part in survival.If you’ve been following this game closely then you already know what you’re in store for. If you want to experience a survival game that will test your wits and skills, then definitely keep an eye out for State of Decay.
