Japan will not be in included in the first wave of countries that will get the Xbox One, instead it is in ‘Tier 2‘, meaning the console will be available at a later date.
In a translated interview with 4Gamer, Yasuyuki Higuchi, president and CEO of Microsoft Japan said the following:
“For the launch of Xbox One Japan is a Tier 2 country and not a Tier 1 country, so it’ll come with the second wave, that will be delayed a little bit [compared to North America], it’ll launch after the Tier 1 markets”.
We already new that Xbox One would not be launching in all markets straight away, however it is still weird to hear the words ‘Tier 2’ in relation to Japan. Japan is a very big gaming country and it is surprising that the console is not launching there straight away.
Although the Xbox has been kind of a joke in the country this move makes it seem as if Microsoft aren’t even trying there anymore, if you aren’t going to launch straight away you may as well give up and not launch at all.
Let me know in the comments what you think about this move, it’s a shame Our Lord Don Mattrick is not here anymore to save us from this.
