The artists formerly known as Namco Bandai – currently Bandai Namco for those who’re keeping up – have announced that soul crushing slash’n’dodge RPG Dark Souls 2, will arrive on next gen consoles in the form of Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin.
The game will feature a host of additional content, including additional NPCs, improved matchmaking “improved game balance,” and augmented item descriptions to really start drawing at some straws.
As well as the aforementioned Xbox One and Playstation 4, the game will be released for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. A free update for existing Dark Souls 2 owners will add the Scholar of the First Sin specific content in its entirety but the inclusion of all existing DLC packs for the rerelease might tempt some players to pay for the upgrade.
In addition, PS4 and XBO owners will benefit from unspecified upgrades to graphics, sound and performance as well as an increase to the maximum number of cooperative players in a single session from three to six, although for those who’ve upgraded from a Playstation 3 to Playstation 4 the added comfort of the dual shock 4 controller may be reason enough to take the plunge.
Dark Souls 2 initially hit store shelves all the way back in March and received almost universally high praise, including from our own David Jagneaux in the Koalition review.
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin will be release April 7 2015. For a first look, be sure to check out the announcement trailer below.
