Earlier today, SCEA Product Director Don Mesa confirmed on the PlayStation Blog that a lighter, slimmer PS Vita is now out in most retailers across North America. This new model is part of a Borderlands 2 Limited Edition package that comes complete with the full game, six DLC pack add-ons, and an 8 GB memory card. this package currently retailers for $199.99.
In addition to being 20 percent slimmer and 15 percent lighter, this model also has 1GB of internal memory, extended battery life, a new LCD screen, and rounded edges for better handling. This same version of the PS Vita launched in the UK on February 7th.
While it is great to hear that this model if finally available in the US, I’m still very much concerned about the lack of quality games on the device. Many can argue that JRPGs are great for the Vita, but my question is where is the dedicated first party support for the platform? Killzone: Mercenary is a perfect example of what is achievable on the device if teams are focused on creating great content.
Will any of you be picking up this slimmer model of the PS Vita anytime soon? Please feel free to let us know in the comments section below.
