UPDATE
As of the time of this writing (10:19pm EST) PSN and all of its services have been restored. You may return to your regularly scheduled gaming.
Original Story
Unlike 2015, the PlayStation Network was up and running during the holiday 2015. Here in the new year however, things seem to have hit a snag as PSN and all of its related services are down. This is a widespread outage that is affecting all users.
The official status page of PlayStation Network has all of PSN’s services listed as experiencing issues. This include such things as account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Now, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Vue, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Music.
While it is too early to say whether or not this was an attack on the network, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility. Back during the holiday season of 2014, a DDoS attack was initiated on PSN which affected all services. A similar attack was promised for the 2015 holiday season though that never came to pass. It’s entirely possible that this latest outage is an attack, especially considering that no maintenance was scheduled for today.
Stay tuned for more on this as it develops.
