Is Burnout’s Crash Mode Making a Return?

Recently published on the Australian classification board’s website, is a rating for the previously unheard of multiplatform game named “Burnout Crash.” Joystiq investigated this bit of news and got the following synopsis from EA:

“An action arcade style game set in the fictional world of Crash City. The aim of the game is to cause as much damage as possible to traffic and buildings by crashing a car into them.”

So, it is a burnout game where you crash into stuff. There has not been a fully-fledged Crash mode in a Burnout game in a while and the series has begun drifting away from what initially made it so popular. This seems to be a good sign then, that maybe the series is getting back to its roots (which seems to be a common theme in the gaming industry nowadays.) However, if the entire game is based around this mode, I have the feeling there will be quite a bit of desire left over after people play this game. People loved Burnout for what it used to be in its entirety, not just the Crash mode. Maybe it will release cheaply as a downloadable game then, because I find it hard to imagine a fully-fledged Burnout game with only Crash mode. Or, better yet, there will be more to do than just crash into stuff.

Who knows though, maybe this is actually a revival of Crash Team Racing with a misleading Burnout title??? One can dream…
