Earlier today, an Amazon listing revealed that Square Enix and United Front Games are currently planning to release a definitive edition of Sleeping Dogs on both the Xbox One and PS4 this October.
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is expected to include the original game along with all of the previously released DLC add-on packs. It is currently unclear if the graphics will be receiving a boost because the developers haven’t officially announced the game yet. Those who do decide to preorder the game through Amazon will receive a 28-page limited edition art book as a bonus. Below is a detailed image of how this package will look once released:
While I’m a personal fan of Sleeping Dogs, I’m very puzzled as to why Square Enix felt the need to re-release this game on next-gen consoles. This is a hardly surprising move given how they treated Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, but it does raise the question of just how many re-released copies of games do we actually need? This also suggests that both the Xbox One and PS4 were rushed to retail and remasters are being released to give developers more time to work on new games for both respective consoles. Hopefully this trend changes as we get deeper into the life cycle of both systems, but I certainly wouldn’t hold my breath on that concept.
