Throwback Thursday: The Fresh Prince (1993 – 1999)

After an eventful week, Will Smith a.K.a The Fresh Prince is this week’s feature for Throwback Thursday.

5 tracks from his music library has been selected for the Throwback Thursday play list. The first of these 5 tracks is “Boom! Shake The Room”. This track was the lead single for the fifth album by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince titled “Code Red” which was released two decades ago.

Track 2 is also from “Code Red”. “I Wanna Rock” was another single from the album. DJ Jazzy Jeff samples DJ E-Z Rock & Rob Base’s “It Takes Two” with Rob Base’s infamous line “I wanna rock right now!”.

The third track in the play list is a remix from 1998 of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s biggest hit, “Summertime”. The remix is officially titled as “Summertime ‘98 Soul Power Remix”. This track features the infamous Kool & The Gang sample of “Summer Madness” and another very familiar sample, especially if you’re a Gangstarr fan.

So Fresh” is track number 4. Produced by DJ Jazzy Jeff, “So Fresh” was released in 1999 on Will Smith’s “Willennium” album. The song features guest appearances from 80’s rappers Biz Markie and Slick Rick.

The final track is another Will Smith solo album cut. “It’s All Good” is from his 1997 album “Big Willie Style”. “It’s All Good” was produced by Jazzy Jeff who sampled Chic’s infamous 1979 single “Good Times”.
