Survival Horror games just aren’t what they used to be. Back in the PSone era there was an abundance of survival horror games which scared the s**t out of me, however as technology improved and the potential to craft a truly frightening experience grew, developers started to focus on providing an action packed romp rather than forcing you to sleep with the lights on. All was not lost though, and in 2008 EA and Visceral Games released one of the scariest videogames ever made, they called it Dead Space. Dead Space was a genuinely terrifying third person shooter which placed you in the curb-stomping shoes of Isaac Clarke, an engineer who is sent with his team to investigate a distress signal. As every sane person knows, answering a distress call is never a good idea and it’s not long before Isaac is all alone using mining tools to protect himself from some of the scariest creatures in the galaxy. For the sequel, Visceral will be turning everything up to 11 and introducing a multiplayer mode to add longevity. The fact is; Dead Space is the new Resident Evil, only it’s better than Resident Evil ever was…
