Welcome to another episode of our Throwdown podcast. This is a show where we discuss video games, pop culture and tech in an honest and uncompromising fashion. You won’t get any bullshit here.
Tonight’s featured topic is about all of the recent problems gamers have been having trying to play games online. To be specific, we talk about the Driveclub fiasco as well as how the PlayStation 4’s Masamune update prevented gamers from participating in the Evolve alpha for several days. Since more and more games are becoming dependent on being online, why aren’t companies doing more to insure that their games work online?
For gaming news, we talk about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. While most people are actually having fun playing a Call of Duty game again, there is controversy surrounding this title. Specifically, the graveyard scene which I have dubbed to be a NONtroversy since it’s something small that is being blown out of proportion. We also talk about Reggie Fils-Aime’s recent remarks about how Nintendo doesn’t need third party developers like the other two companies do. We break down his PR spin.
Tech news makes a return this week. We talk about how big media companies are afraid of Netflix’s growing influence on the TV industry and how they are trying to stay competitive with the popular streaming service. Apple claims that only nine people were affected by “Bendgate” but we have proof that this is a lie thanks to a video that has over 300 bent iPhone 6 phones. Lastly, we talk about Sony’s crazy plan to turn TV commercials into video games. Yes, it’s as ridiculous as it sounds.
Rounding things out is pop culture news. Star Wars Episode VII has been Christened “The Force Awakens,” so we give our thoughts on this and some other recent news concerning the franchise. We end things off with Marvel Comics. Jack Kirby’s name is (finally) being put into the credits of TV shows, movies, and comics of characters he helped create. We discuss how the upcoming Marvel Comics/Attack on Titan crossover will actually work given that the Marvel heroes should have an easy time defeating the Titans, Lastly we give our thoughts on the event that Marvel has been teasing us with for the last month… Secret Wars: Battleworld.
This week I was joined by: Emilio Lopez, Brian Munjoma, Rachael Murdock, Brett Murdock and Chris Sealy.
